F4 race-winner Simmons joins JHR for 2018 campaign
Ayrton Simmons returns for a second full-season in the F4 British Championship in 2018 as he moves to multi-championship-winning outfit JHR Developments. The 16-year old finished seventh last season in his first full-year in the series in 2017, taking a race win at Brands Hatch. He also finished Rookie Vice Champion in 2016 during a partial campaign.
Simmons teams up with his friend Manuel Sulaiman and newcomer Josh Skelton at JHR for the year, one which he hopes ends with a title-fight. “When we were given the opportunity to join JHR Developments for 2018 it was a no-brainer,” said Simmons. “I have seen how professionally the team operates from the outside and we all feel that I will have a genuine crack at the championship. Having Manuel as a team mate is great news as we are both native Spanish speakers and good friends away from the track. I would like to thank my outstanding sponsors DWS, ELEV8, and Couper Earnshaw, who were all as excited as I am to be part of the JHR family.”
“We have followed Ayrton’s progress with interest as he is an incredibly talented young driver,” said Steven Hunter, Team Principal at JHR. “This will be his second full season in F4 and we feel he has a genuine chance at the championship. We have finished second and third in the overall championship and with the team we have assembled for 2018 we are sure we have a great chance at outright championship honours.”
The F4 British Championship season begins at Brands Hatch on its Indy circuit with qualifying at 09:00 on Saturday April 7. The opening two 20-minute races of the season take place that afternoon at 14:15 and 17:40, with the third live on ITV4 at 15:05 on Sunday April 8.
