Karting graduate joins JHR Developments in F4 British Championship
JHR Developments is delighted to announce that karter Alex Walker will join the multiple championship-winning team for five of the remaining six rounds of this season's F4 British Championship.
After testing Alex over the winter and running him in the team’s own bespoke, in-house, state-of-the-art race simulator, JHR Developments is happy that the 15-year old will join drivers Josh Skelton and Carter Williams in the series.
With experience in both domestic and international karting, the Bedford-based racer joins the team with a view to learning as much as he can ahead of a full-season title challenge, taking part in every round of the rest of the year, aside from Knockhill.
“It is going to be great having Alex join us from Oulton Park onwards,” said Steven Hunter, Team Principal, JHR Developments. “The purpose of these drives is to get as much knowledge into him as possible for the 2020 season. We’ve done a couple of tests with Alex and ideally he would have liked to have done more racing this year, but he has literally just finished his exams so there’s been no chance to get him on circuit.
“There won’t be any pressure on him whatsoever for the five rounds that he will be competing in; he’s just going to go out, enjoy the experience, learn as much as he can, and be ready for a full season next year.”
“Once I drove a race car, I knew I wanted to move up immediately,” said Alex. “Steven and Jules [Phillips - Development Director] at JHR, who had run me over the winter in testing and on their simulator, have been brilliant and encouraged me to go straight into British F4.
“Given that I have done very little testing due to exams I'll be learning as much as I can before looking for a title shot in 2020. The Mygale M14-F4 drives like a kart does, so I think the step up will be easier than other formulae.
“Given F4 is a global formula with a long history in the UK, following this well-trodden path feels the best choice for my first steps into car racing. I believe what you can learn in F4 is imperative to the skills that will be needed later in my racing career.
“Many thanks to my partners at Pipercross Air Filters, as well as JHR Developments, who have shown belief in me to help me start this journey.”
